British quartet crowned European champions in synchronised trampoline

Great Britain's men's and women's synchronised trampoline pairs both take home the gold medal from the European Championships in Guimaraes.

Great Britain added another two senior gold medals to their collection from the 2024 European Trampoline Championships as the men's and women's synchronised pairs both took home the titles.

On the back of three podium finishes on Friday, including a continental crown for the women's tumbling team, GB came up trumps in the only two senior finals of the penultimate day of competition.

The women's team of Isabelle Songhurst and Bryony Page - the reigning world champion and two-time Olympic medallist - pulled off the most complex routine of the day to surge to the gold medal with a total of 48.160.

Despite posting a marginally lower execution score than France, GB's superior difficulty carried them to the crown as the former won silver with 47.890, while Georgia were down in third position with 47.740.

"Our prelim routine this morning went really well, we both knew we had kept in sync and performed a really difficult routine," four-time world champion Page told British Gymnastics.

"Our finals routine wasn't quite as smooth so it was tense waiting to see if we had done enough to keep our European Champion title, but we had and it feels amazing that our hard work training together has ended with a gold."

In addition to the women's coronation, the men's duo of Zak Perzamanos and Corey Walkes also departed the competition hall as European champions with a beautiful routine in the men's final.

The pair were part of the GB troupe to agonisingly miss out on a medal in the men's team final, but there would be no repeat of that heartache in Saturday's synchro event, taking the title with 51.940 on the board.

Thanks to the highest synchronisation score of the day, GB - as was the case in the women's final - finished first above silver medallists France, who again settled for second place with a total of 51.720.

Portugal's routine was the most difficult of the afternoon, but the host nation were slightly down on execution, synchronisation and horizontal displacement to post a bronze-worthy score of 51.520.

"We are ecstatic to have won the European Gold, this is our first synchro win together and it feels absolutely amazing to achieve this with Zak," Walkes said, while Perzamanos added: "We live over 6 hours away from each other so we really put in the work when we are training at the GB camp and it's all paid off today."

GB currently top the medal standings with three golds and two silvers at the Europeans, which conclude with the individual finals in all three disciplines - trampolining, tumbling and double-mini trampoline - on Sunday. body check tags ::
