Welsh gymnast and flag bearer Francesca Jones praises her teammates after winning Wales's first medal of the Commonwealth Games in the rhythmic gymnastics team event.

Team Wales gymnast Francesca Jones has hailed her teammates and described tonight's Commonwealth silver medal as "amazing".

Jones, 23, won her second Commonwealth medal and Wales's first of the 2014 Games by finishing second in the rhythmic gymnastics team event alongside debutantes Nikara Jenkins, 17, and Laura Halford, 18.

"I'm so proud of [my teammates]," she told reporters after the medal ceremony. "It's been such a massive experience for them as they've never been to a major competition before, so to be so composed and do such a good job. I'm so proud of them."

When asked how it felt to win her country's first medal of the Games, Jones added: "It's phenomenal. Last time (in Delhi) I got a medal on the last day and now this time the first day. It's amazing."

Jones's success comes a day after she flew the flag for Wales at the opening ceremony of the Games.

She has now qualified for tomorrow's individual all-around final and all four apparatus finals on Saturday.

Canada took gold in the team event, while Malaysia edged out England for the bronze.
