England netballer Serena Guthrie believes that the squad has the ability to reach the Commonwealth Games final in Glasgow.

Anna Mayes's side have never previously made it to that stage of the event, having lost four semi-finals since the sport made its debut in 1998.

"We want to be in that final," Guthrie, who will be competing at her first Commonwealth Games, told BBC Sport. "We want to be competing and we want to show world netball that we're not a bronze medal team anymore.

"We've sat down and talked about what medal we want and it's not a bronze. We want to be in that final and that's our goal and we'll be pushing hard for that.

"You have to put in the performances in order to believe, and I think we've done that more consistently over the past four years. It's my first games and I'm really excited, I'm not sure what to expect."

Guthrie, 24, made her England debut as a 17-year-old back in 2008.
