Hockey star Mark Gleghorne has stressed that Team England are "determined to do well" in the men's hockey event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
England missed out on a medal at the World Cup earlier this summer, losing in the semi-finals to the Netherlands before succumbing to defeat in the bronze-medal match against Argentina.
"The World Cup was huge for us," the East Grinstead Courier quotes Greghorne as saying. "Everyone was disappointed with how it finished and it has given us some new vigour coming in to the Commonwealth Games."
Of the Games in Glasgow, which officially get underway later today, the 29-year-old added: "I am really looking forward to getting going. It has been quite a big build up, but now it is nearly here and we are in good shape. We are determined to do well and hopefully if we perform to our ability we can come away with a medal."
England face Trinidad and Tobago in their opening group match on Thursday.
