England women have won bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games courtesy of a 6-0 victory over India at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre this afternoon.
It looked as though it might be a tight affair when the opening quarter ended goalless, and the second followed a similar pattern before Hollie Pearne-Webb finally broke the deadlock with just over three minutes of the first half remaining.
India were still very much in the match at that stage, though, and even after Sophie Bray doubled England's advantage in the closing stages of the third quarter the game still looked to be up for grabs heading into the final period.
However, England pulled away in the final 15 minutes to eventually sweep to the bronze medal in style as Bray completed her hat-trick, while Laura Unsworth and Alex Danson also got on the scoresheet during a prolific spell which saw the Glasgow silver medallists score four times in just eight minutes.
The result also earned England revenge after being beaten by India during the group stages of the tournament, ensuring their place on the podium for women's hockey for the sixth Games in a row.
The gold-medal match sees hosts Australia take on New Zealand this afternoon.
