The Florida Panthers have fired coach Kevin Dineen following a poor start to the NHL season.
Dineen, who had been in charge at the BB&T Center since 2011, was given the boot after a seven-game losing streak that left the Panthers with an overall record of 3-9-4 this campaign.
General manager Dale Tallon told reporters: "After 16 games it was clear that our team needed a change in philosophy and direction.
"We have not met the expectations that we set forth at training camp and it is my responsibility to make the necessary changes to ensure our club performs at its maximum potential."
Peter Horachek has been placed in temporary charge. He will be assisted by Brian Skrudland and John Madden.
