Russian men's coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov believes that his side were wrongly disallowed a goal during their Group A defeat to the United States at the Winter Olympics in Sochi on Saturday.

Team USA eventually won on penalty shots after the match was tied at 2-2 at the end of overtime.

A slapshot from Fedor Tyutin had appeared to give Russia a 3-2 lead with four minutes and 40 seconds remaining in the third period.

However, following a review, officials ruled the goal out, determining that the net had been knocked from its moorings just before the Columbus Blue Jackets star hit his shot.

Under NHL rules, the goal would have stood, but the Olympic laws of the game are different and this caused quite a lot of confusion.

Bilyaletdinov told USA Today: "What can I do? What can I do in this situation?

"If this is a mistake of the judges, there are people that will find it. The referees made a mistake, yes, but we need to prepare for the next match.

"It's very sad that the referees didn't count it, but the referees looked at the video and made this decision. That means that's the way it was."

Russia now have four points from two group matches. Victory over Slovakia in their final preliminary game on Sunday would see them progress to the next round.
