Russia's Mansur Isaev held on to take the gold medal in the -73kg judo final, defeating Riki Nakaya convincingly.
Nakaya, who is unbeaten in his last four battles, appeared confident taking on his fourth seed opponent in the early stages of the contest.
Despite a positive start, the Japanese pro came into danger after Isaev got Nakaya into an arm lock but he managed to turn his left elbow to avoid losing a point.
Isaev earned the first point of the clash after bringing Nakaya down to the floor with a lock and it proved to be enough to win gold.
