Scotland's Sarah Adlington claims that she can use her Commonwealth Games gold medal as a stepping stone to help her qualify for the Olympics in 2016.

Scotland's Sarah Adlington has claimed that she can use her Commonwealth Games gold medal as a stepping stone to help her qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The Shrewsbury-born 27-year-old defeated England's Jodie Myers to claim Scotland's fifth gold medal in judo at these Games.

Adlington told reporters: "The crowd were amazing, to come away with the win is fantastic.

"It is the first time I have fought since February, so to come back here and win gold hopefully stands me in good stead for the Olympic qualifiers later this year."

Euan Burton secured judo gold number four for Scotland earlier on Saturday, while Chris Sherrington capped off a successful day on the mat with the sixth judo gold for the host nation.
