Sports Mole chats with Team GB judoka Megan Fletcher in the wake of her first-round defeat at the European Games in Baku.

Team GB judoka Megan Fletcher was knocked out in the first round of the -70kg category European Games on Friday, losing to Katarzyna Klys of Poland.

The 25-year-old Brit fought hard against her counterpart, but a narrow defeat saw the Commonwealth Games champion exit the competition early.

Judo at this year's European Games is doubling up as the sport's European Championships, while ranking points for the Rio Olympics are also available.

Sports Mole caught up with a tearful Fletcher afterwards to get her reaction.

Hi Megan, what's your assessment of how things went for you out there?

"I'm really disappointed. I fought well, but I just got caught - that's judo. I made one mistake and then that's the end of the fight, I'm out of the competition. It's just frustrating when you train all of the time and then it's just done."

How had your preparation been heading into the event?

"Fine, I couldn't have asked for anything better. I felt really good, felt good on the mat, felt good fighting her. It's just judo. It could be a different outcome on a different day."

What result were you hoping for here in Baku?

"If I could have got fifth place or anything above that then I would have been happy with that. That's obviously not going to be the case today."

What does the future hold for you now? What's next on your schedule?

"I go from here to Mongolia - I'm fighting there for a Grand Prix next weekend - and then after that the [World Championships] selections are made, but I doubt I'll be selected after that."
