Daniel de Jong undergoes four hours of surgery after breaking his sixth vertebrae in a GP2 race in Belgium yesterday.

GP2 driver Daniel de Jong has suffered a serious injury during a major crash in the feature race yesterday in Belgium.

The Dutch driver collided with Pierre Gasly at the Spa-Francochamps circuit and crashed into the barriers at high speed yesterday, which caused the race to be delayed by 30 minutes.

He was taken to hospital and had four hours of surgery on his sixth vertebrae, which suffered serious damage.

De Jong will stay in hospital for the next seven days.
