IndyCar officials have announced that they will try to improve safety during races following Dario Franchitti's crash.
The four-time world champion was hospitalised after breaking two vertebrae in his spine when he slammed into a wall during the Houston Grand Prix on Sunday.
According to BBC Sport, an IndyCar statement said: "Reducing the risks that are associated with racing is one of our highest priorities."
English driver Dan Wheldon suffered a fatal crash in 2011.
