Australia all-rounder James Faulkner is facing a drink-drive charge after being caught behind the wheel with a blood alcohol reading at twice the legal limit.

Australia all-rounder James Faulkner has been charged with drink-driving during his stint with county side Lancashire.

The 25-year-old recorded a blood alcohol reading of twice the legal limit in Britain after being stopped by Greater Manchester Police, and is also facing a misconduct charge from Cricket Australia.

Faulkner, who has been stood down from Lancashire's squad for this evening's T20 Blast match against Yorkshire, said in a statement: "I can't excuse my actions and understand that I have let people down. My decision to drive was an error in judgement. I apologise unreservedly and accept any penalty handed to me by Cricket Australia and the relevant authorities."

Cricket Australia's performance manager, Pat Howard, added: "It is clear that he made a very poor decision to get behind the wheel of a car after drinking and that decision had clear potential to cause serious harm to him and others.

"It is also clear that he is very disappointed and embarrassed by his actions given his position as a role-model to young people. This is a very real wake-up call for James and all other Australian cricketers around the importance of responsible decision making."

Faulkner, who will appear in court on July 21, was part of Australia's squad for their win at the Cricket World Cup earlier this year.
