The Bangladesh Cricket Board has suspended fast bowler Shahadat Hossain over allegations that he and his wife tortured their housemaid.

Hossain is said to have filed a complaint on Sunday morning with police in Mirpur, a suburb of Dhaka, saying that the 11-year-old had gone missing.

The girl was then located on Sunday night by a local journalist, Khandakar Mozzamel Haque, who took her to the Mirpur police station under whose jurisdiction the alleged abuse took place.

The chief executive of the BCB, Nizamuddin Chowdhury, said: "Hossain has been suspended from all kinds of cricketing activities under BCB's jurisdiction until a final decision is reached regarding the 'torture accusations' brought against him.

"The law will take its own course. BCB has nothing to do with it. He has to prove himself innocent."

Hossain, who has been missing since the allegations surfaced, has played 38 Tests and 51 one-day internationals for Bangladesh in a career spanning 10 years.
