Derby County have confirmed that they will be in touch with police after Brighton & Hove Albion defender Connor Goldson alleged that he was racially abused during yesterday's 2-2 draw at Pride Park.
Goldson, 22, was not part of the Seagulls' matchday squad but was watching from the stands during the top-of-the-table clash when he says that he was abused by a Rams fan.
He wrote on Twitter: "Always great being in the stand on a Saturday afternoon and being called a black b****** by a Derby fan with his child. Great day."
In a statement on their website, Derby confirmed that they would be supporting a police investigation into the incident. "Derby County are concerned to hear about allegations of racial abuse by a supporter directed at a Brighton & Hove Albion player during Saturday's game at the iPro Stadium," it read.
"We take these matters seriously and will be referring the allegations to the Police. Abuse of any kind has no place in the culture of Derby County Football Club."
The result on Saturday saw Brighton remain top of the Championship table and maintain their unbeaten league record for the season.
