Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard has been named as one of several professional footballers backing a new North American Soccer League team based in San Diego.
Hazard has teamed up with Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye, former Chelsea teammate Demba Ba and Ba's Senegal compatriot Moussa Sow to form the new club, which will begin playing in 2018.
San Diego, a city in Southern California, is the location for the new expansion side, which will compete in the NASL, the second tier of the US football pyramid.
According to Sky Sports News, the club is currently looking for a venue to "build a privately-financed soccer complex" in the North County area.
"San Diego is a beautiful place and the love and passion the people have for soccer made this an easy choice for us," the Belgian said.
"My friends and I are honoured to turn this dream into a reality and we can't wait to get started and win some games."
San Diego is currently lacking a professional football team, although former United States international Landon Donovan is part of a team trying to win a bid to bring a Major League Soccer expansion team to the city.
