The FA reportedly proposes that top-flight clubs should be banned from loaning overseas players to each other after Brexit.

The FA is reportedly planning to use Brexit as an opportunity to boost the national side by imposing new restrictions in the transfer market.

The governing body is currently in discussions with the UK government about how player transfers will work after the UK leaves the European Union on March 29 next year.

Under current rules, freedom of movement and labour means that players from EU countries can move to Premier League or EFL clubs without any obstacles, but Brexit is likely to mean that any future EU nationals wishing to move to the UK will require a visa.

According to The Times, the Premier League has written to the government asking them to effectively grant an exception to any foreign players moving to the UK who will be named in a top-flight side's 25-man squad.

The FA, meanwhile, is said to be proposing a ban on top-flight clubs from loaning foreign players to each other post-Brexit, a move they believe would give more game time to domestic players and therefore strengthen the England team.

Were the rules in place last season, Chelsea's Kenedy would have been unable to move to Newcastle United, while the Magpies would also have been unable to bring in Islam Slimani from Leicester City.
