The England squad will reportedly have the protection of the elite police unit Special Operations Batallion (BOPE) while in Brazil for the World Cup next summer.
In a bid to prevent all the participating nations from falling victims to the country's crime problems, Rio governor Sergio Filho is trying to ensure that all teams are protected by guards.
Officers from BOPE will provide security for all teams on matchdays, as well as transportation across the country, according to the Daily Star.
Brazil's justice minister Jose Cardozo and FIFA security adviser Andre Pruis are believed to be planning to hold safety talks this week.
