The sporting action starts to hot up over the Bank Holiday weekend, with plenty on offer for armchair fans should the weather take a turn for the worse.

From England's Cricket World Cup preparations, Super League's 'Magic Weekend' through to what is sure to be an emotional Monaco Grand Prix, the start of the French Open tennis – and then, of course, the small matter of the Championship Play-off final at Wembley, there is plenty to keep you glued to your armchair

Saturday

CRICKET WORLD CUP WARM-UP
England v Australia – Sky Sports Mix 1020

The countdown is on for the start of the 2019 Cricket World Cup, which opens with England against South Africa at The Oval on May 30. Eoin Morgan's side will be out to continue their impressive form against Australia at the Ageas Bowl in Hampshire, where returning duo Steve Smith and David Warner are sure to be in for a warm welcome reception from the home crowd.

ROYAL LONDON ONE-DAY CUP FINAL
Hampshire v Somerset – Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Cricket 1030.

Holders Hampshire will take on Somerset looking to retain their limited-overs crown. After some 56 years at Lord's, the match will be the last domestic one-day final at the venue before the showpiece fixture moves to Trent Bridge from 2020.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S FOOTBALL

Phil Neville's England Women squad continued their build-up towards the World Cup in France with a friendly against Denmark Women at Walsall. After their triumph at the She Believes Cup, expectations have been lifted of another memorable summer of international football.

GUINNESS PRO14 FINAL
Glasgow Warriors v Leinster – eir Sport 1 1730, Premier Sport 1

Scotland will play host to the final of the rugby union competition for the first time since 2016 when Glasgow Warriors tackle Leinster at Celtic Park. Last season saw a new record attendance in Dublin, which could well be topped on Saturday as Warriors head coach Dave Rennie looks to make full use of the bumper home crowd.

SCOTTISH CUP FINAL
Hearts v Celtic – BBC One Scotland, Premier Sports 1 1500

Celtic will look to complete the triple treble when they face Hearts in the final of the William Hill Scottish Cup at Hampden Park. There has yet been no announcement over whether interim-manager Neil Lennon will be at the helm again next season, but another bit of silverware would sit well on his CV.

SUPER LEAGUE
Magic Weekend – Sky Sports Action from 1355

Rugby league takes over Anfield this weekend with the Dacia Magic Weekend bringing six matches over two days to Merseyside. The Betfred Super League action kicks off with Wakefield against Catalans Dragons before Hull tackle Huddersfield and then Wigan tackle Warrington in the late game for a repeat of last season's Grand Final.

FORMULA ONE
Monaco Grand Prix – Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports F1 1230

Formula One's blue-riband event around the streets of Monte Carlo will have a different feel this year as the sport pays its respects to Niki Lauda. Mercedes will be racing for the first time since the death of the team's non-executive chairman and former three-time world champion, with tributes from other teams and drivers also planned.

LEAGUE ONE PLAY-OFF FINAL
Charlton v Sunderland Sky Sports Main Event 1600

Sunderland and Charlton will battle it out at Wembley for the final promotion place up to the Championship. When the two sides met in the 1999 First Division play-off, Charlton striker Clive Mendonca scored a hat-trick in a 4-4 draw after extra-time, with the Addicks winning a dramatic penalty shoot-out 7-6 when Michael Gray missed his crucial spot-kick.

GRAND SLAM TENNIS
French Open – Eurosport 1 and ITV4 0930

Day one of the clay court Grand Slam start at Roland Garros. Britain's Cameron Norrie has been handed a first-round match against controversial Australian Nick Kyrgios, while Johanna Konta will be hoping to make an impact in the women's event.

SUPER LEAGUE
Magic Weekend – Sky Sports Action & Sky Sports Mix from 1300

There are three more Super League matches at Anfield on Sunday, starting with Salford against Hull Kingston Rovers, with struggling Leeds Rhinos then facing London Broncos. The Magic Weekend signs off with St Helens, who have scored 93 tries so far, facing Castleford.

CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY-OFF FINAL
Aston Villa v Derby – Sky Sports Football & Main Event 1500

Wembley will again host the most lucrative one-off match in world football as Aston Villa and Derby battle it out for a place in the Premier League and a windfall of some £170million. Rams' boss Frank Lampard will be up against his old Chelsea team-mate John Terry, now in the Villa dugout.

CRICKET WORLD CUP WARM-UP
England v Afghanistan- Sky Sports Mix 1020

Will Afghanistan be celebrating a memorable win over England ahead of the World Cup? (Nigel French/PA)

As the build-up to the 2019 Cricket World Cup on home soil continues, England head to The Oval to face Afghanistan, who would like nothing more than to rattle the hosts ahead of their big event.
