Former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland midfielder Jason McAteer failed to hide his excitement after porn star Jenna Jameson followed the retired footballer on Twitter.

After discovering that the famous adult film star is a fan of the ex-sportsman's tweets, McAteer decided to tweet Jameson directly, and she replied by calling him a "cheeky boy".

Upon learning that Jameson was following his Twitter page, McAteer wrote: "Cracked it !! All I need is Floella Benjamin to follow me and that will be the two women I grew up with ! I was that excited I favourited my own last tweet !!!!"

It appears as though former Liverpool star Robbie Fowler was impressed as McAteer revealed that he received a phone call from the retired striker.

McAteer wrote: "This is brilliant just had a call from @Robbie9Fowler congratulating me on my new follower ! That's @jennajameson and God in the same day."

The ex-midfielder spent four years playing for Liverpool.
