A campaign has been launched urging the public to vote for Raheem Sterling to be the new face of the Bank of England's £20 note.

Nominations for a new subject for the banknote are open until Sunday, with the Bank of England keen to celebrate Britain's achievements in visual arts with their selection.

However, a website suggesting that the newly-signed Manchester City midfielder should be the new face said: "So if you think; 1. he's a money-grabbing 20-year-old, 2. he's the greatest think since £48m sliced bread, 3. his extortionate transfer and wages probably earned the British economy a generously large windfall in tax, 4. his name sounds awfully like the name of our current, put Sterling on the new £20 note."

Whoever is selected by the Bank of England will join Scottish philosopher and economist Adam Smith on the note.
