The BBC has issued an apology after they mistakenly wrote "Manchester United are rubbish" on their live news ticker.
On Tuesday morning, a sports bulletin was reporting on the tennis from Roland Garros when the four-word sentence randomly appeared on the BBC News channel.
Moments later, "Weather rain everywhere" appeared, and it led to the broadcaster being forced to issue an apology and an explanation to puzzled viewers.
Shortly before midday, over two hours after the error, a news reader said that a trainee had been learning how to update the ticker, a process which involved using "random words".
Furthermore, BBC apologised for any offence which may have been caused, the incident occurring two days after United had been confirmed in sixth position in the Premier League table courtesy of a 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace.
With interim boss Ralf Rangnick winning just 11 of his 29 matches in charge, Erik ten Hag has been appointed as his successor. body check tags ::
