A controlled explosion has taken place at Old Trafford, the Greater Manchester Police have confirmed.
Old Trafford was due to host Manchester United's final Premier League game of the season against Bournemouth on Sunday, but the match was abandoned in the build-up to kickoff when a 'suspect package' was found.
It is understood that the package in question was a mobile phone device which was attached to a toilet inside the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand.
The bomb disposal squad were later sent in and the police have now revealed that a controlled explosion has occurred.
"Latest update: A controlled explosion has just been carried out within the stadium by bomb disposal experts at Old Trafford. More to follow," read the tweet.
It is thought that the match will be rescheduled for after the FA Cup final next weekend.
