Europe's Sergio Garcia admits that it was "really interesting" to receive a motivational talk from former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Europe's Sergio Garcia has given some insight into what former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson told his teammates ahead of this week's Ryder Cup showdown against Team USA at Gleneagles.

The 72-year-old, who retired from management last year, gave a motivational speech to Paul McGinley's team in Scotland yesterday.

Spaniard Garcia, who is a lifelong Real Madrid supporter, admitted today that he wasn't Ferguson's "biggest fan", but is "glad" to have spent some time with the Scotsman.

"It's always interesting to pick his brain and see what things he's gone through," Garcia told reporters. "It was really, really interesting, and I'm actually glad that I got to know him a little bit better.

"There were a lot of little quotes, but obviously hard-working, confidence, belief, never giving up - those are some of the things he mentioned. Just keep fighting until the end. It doesn't matter if you're two down with three to go or five down with eight to go. So even if you lose, at least make it as tight as possible. It's always important."

Europe won the Ryder Cup two years ago in Medinah.
