Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has suggested that Paul Scholes has drifted into TV punditry for the money and has questioned whether Gary Neville has won over non-United fans.

Neville has emerged as a leading football pundit for Sky Sports, while Scholes joined BT Sport at the start of the season and has had stints on ITV.

Many were surprised at Scholes's move into television because of his quiet persona away from the pitch during his playing years, but Keane, who was a regular football expert for ITV before returning to coaching, has rubbished suggestions that the former midfielder was shy.

When asked about Neville appearing to win over non-United fans, Keane told ShortList.com: "I don't think he has. Certain papers write stories about Gary winning everyone over, and he's writing for these same newspapers, y'know?

"People don't realise Scholesy could have done [TV appearances] at United, but he couldn't be arsed. People thought he was camera shy - he just couldn't be bothered. None of us liked doing interviews, but it was a responsibility of the dressing room, you shared the load.

"'Scholesy's too humble to do it'. Well, he's fucking doing it now, isn't he? Maybe there's more money involved now. And I'd tell him this if he was sat here in front of me."

Keane holds assistant coaching roles at both Aston Villa and the Republic of Ireland setup.
