Greater Manchester Police will reportedly have the option to wear protective goggles during tonight's derby between Manchester United and Manchester City.
Security increased after the 2010 clash between the pair at the Etihad, which turned sour when Rio Ferdinand was hit just above the eye with a coin thrown from the crowd.
Following City's 4-1 win over their rivals earlier in the season, the authorities are hopeful that Tuesday's clash at Old Trafford will also run as smoothly.
According to the Daily Mail, officers along the line of segregation will be offered goggles to wear, while sniffer dogs will be used to detect flares being brought into the ground.
Reports have claimed that drunken fans will also be turned away at the gate.
