The wife of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has reportedly issued a complaint to the Cheshire East Council about plans to build 15 new homes close to her estate with the footballer.

Coleen, who sparked anger among some residents after she and her husband bulldozed a mansion to expand their home, has claimed that the fresh building plans will "ruin" the village.

In the letter, which has been published by the Daily Mail, Coleen wrote: "Let's not ruin our village. The development would be in direct conflict with the national policy to protect green belt land.

"The development will mean more car journeys into the village, which is already congested and unsuitable for the increased traffic. It will damage the special landscape, character and appearance of the area."

The plans state that the homes, one of which would be visible from the Rooneys' driveway, will be built on land owned by Harvey Wood Investments.
