Sir Alex Ferguson attends the 86th Academy Awards in Los Angeles and jokes that he has "nothing to do" after retiring from management.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson joked that due to his retirement he has "nothing to do" while he was interviewed at the 86th Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

The Scotsman attended the Oscars ceremony in the US, where 12 Years A Slave was named the best film of the year and Matthew McConaughey took home the best actor gong for his lead role in Dallas Buyer's Club.

Ferguson questioned why Tom Hanks was not nominated for an award for his performance in Captain Phillips, but believes that McConaughey deserved the honour.

"I thought the ones were correct," Ferguson told Sky News. "I thought the best film was 12 Years A Slave, I thought American Hustle was good. I really liked Captain Phillips.

"It's amazing that [Hanks] wasn't even nominated but McConaughey was fantastic, he deserved it."

Ferguson attended the Vanity Fair party after the awards ceremony.
