Manchester United security officials have reportedly been left red faced after failing to spot two supporters hiding in an Old Trafford toilet overnight ahead of last weekend's meeting with Arsenal.
The fans, thought to be foreign students, devised the plan to remain undetected after sneaking off during a stadium tour on Friday and were only discovered the following morning.
BBC Sport reports that the pair in question were spotted during a security sweep a few hours ahead of United's Premier League showdown with Arsenal, before being handed over to police who decided not to arrest them.
The incident comes six months after the Red Devils' final game of the 2015-16 season had to be called off at the last minute after a suspect package, which turned out to be a fake explosive left following a training exercise, was spotted inside the Theatre of Dreams.
A United spokesman is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: "We realise people will go to any lengths to watch a game at Old Trafford but these people went too far. The fact that they and their belongings had been searched before entry means we are confident there was no risk to safety."
United went on to draw 1-1 with Arsenal, leaving them sixth in the top flight.
