Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote has issued an apology after being caught behind the wheel of his car while holding an open bottle of champagne.
Pictures of the 28-year-old that are thought to have been taken in his native Ivory Coast emerged on Friday night.
Having been reprimanded by his club, Tiote has now said sorry for the incident, admitting that he 'deeply regrets' his actions.
"I deeply regret my actions and I am sorry for any offence caused," he said in a statement. "I realise that as a professional footballer I have a responsibility to many people, including the club and its supporters and it is important for me to set a good example to others with my behaviour on and off the pitch."
Tiote was hit with a six-month driving ban last year after admitting to possessing a fake licence.
