At least 15 football fans die following a stampede at a match in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

At least 15 people have been killed as a result of a stampede at a football match in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

BBC News reported that the trouble started when tear gas was fired into the crowd by police, leaving a further 20 injured.

Local minister for Central Kinshasa, Emmanuel Akweti, told Reuters: "Four policemen were harassed by supporters. When they fired tear gas, the stampede began, causing the deaths."

Home fans were unhappy following ASV Club's 1-0 defeat to Tout Puissant Mazembe.
