England rugby league international Sam Burgess has received an apology after an opposition fan hit him with a stick at the end of a match.
The former Bradford Bulls prop was struck over the head as he headed off the pitch during an NRL match in Australia, where he plays for South Sydney.
A statement from the club said: "The fan has unreservedly apologised for causing any harm to the NRL and the [Penrith] Panthers. They have also offered an apology to Sam and the South Sydney club.
"Appropriate action has been taken against the fan and Panthers, Souths and the NRL are satisfied that the matter has now been resolved."
Burgess will switch rugby codes later year when he joins Aviva Premiership side Bath.
