Tom Daley has revealed that he was "terrified" about how his fans would react to his announcement that he is in a same-sex relationship.

During a recent appearance on ITV comedy show Celebrity Juice, the Olympic diver opened up about how he felt when publicly declaring his sexuality.

"I was terrified. I didn't know what the reaction was going to be," Daley told host Keith Lemon. "That's what goes through your head."

Daley went on to explain why he chose to come out via a YouTube video, rather than through the press.

"I wanted to be able to say what I wanted to say on my own terms without anyone twisting anything," he added.

Daley is currently dating 39-year-old Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.
