Olympic gold medallist Jessica Ennis has proven that her competitive spirit doesn't diminish on a night out by allowing herself to get locked in a cage with ping-pong balls.

The 26-year-old, who won gold in the heptathlon at London 2012, attended the launch of a new Genting casino in Sheffield with friends and her boyfriend Andy Hill.

It wasn't long until the Team GB star was put in the cage to grab as many ping-pong balls as possible in 60 seconds.

"Jess was great, she had time for everyone and was happy to pose with fans for pictures," a spectator told the Daily Mail. "She's adored in Sheffield and it's easy to see why."

Meanwhile, Ennis has yet to announce whether she will be competing in the heptathlon in Rio 2016.
