England legend Paul Gascoigne has apologised for his actions after admitting to one charge of common assault at Stevenage Magistrates' Court.
The 46-year-old was fined £1,245 after telling the court that he grabbed the throat of a ticket collector while drunk during an incident at the Stevenage railway on July 4.
Solicitor Gavin Harris told reporters: "Mr Gascoigne has asked me to say a few words on his behalf. Mr Gascoigne wants to publicly apologise for his actions that evening. He now wishes to be left alone to carry on with his recovery."
A second charge of common assault, which related to an alleged attack on Gascoigne's ex-wife Sheryl, was dropped.
