Indianapolis gymnastics coach Marvin Sharp has been found dead in a jail cell four weeks after being charged with child molestation and child pornography.
The 49-year-old was being held at Marion County prison in Oregon on allegations that he abused a 12-year-old girl at his gym.
This week, police confirmed that Sharp, who faced four counts of child molesting and three counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, was found unresponsive in his jail cell and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
During the investigation into Sharp, Federal prosecutors reportedly found thousands of explicit images of underage children locked in safes at his home, as well as in file cabinets at Sharp's Gymnastics Academy.
A statement from USA Gymnastics to the Indianapolis Star read: "USA Gymnastics is aware of the untimely death of Marvin Sharp. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all involved in this tragic set of circumstances."
According to insidethegames.biz, Sharp is believed to have coached Bridget Sloan and Samantha Peszek, both of whom were part of the USA team who won Olympic silver at Beijing 2008.
