Six-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy will be approached to campaign against Scottish independence, reports have suggested.
It is understood that Better Together, a group opposed to Alex Salmond's bid for an independent Scotland, will seek to use the 36-year-old as the face of their campaign.
Hoy, who may also be asked to become a member of the Scottish parliament, became Great Britain's most successful Olympian at London 2012 by adding team sprint and keirin gold to his impressive seven-medal total.
A spokesman for Hoy said last night: "He is having a well-deserved weekend away and I am not going to disturb him."
The referendum on independence will take place in 2014, two months after the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
