Islamic State extremists appear to have hacked into non-League Heybridge Swifts Twitter account.
Earlier this week, a picture of a black and white IS flag was posted on the official page of the club, who play in the Ryman League Division One North.
"We are absolutely bemused as to why anyone would target the club," the Daily Star quotes the club's media manager Dave Buckingham as saying.
"The whole situation is so surreal. I have even had a phone call from Essex Police officers asking me what we are playing at. We've released an official statement making it clear we have not posted the flag of Islamic State willingly."
The club have also failed to take back control of the Twitter page as all attempts have resulted in a message claiming that the account has been "locked".
