Former world number one golfer Rory McIlroy has revealed that it was a "mutual" decision with Caroline Wozniacki to end their engagement.
The Northern Irishman announced today in a statement that the couple had split just days after sending out their wedding invitations.
The 25-year-old admitted in the statement that he "wasn't ready" for marriage, but in a press conference ahead of tomorrow's BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, McIlroy clarified both he and the tennis star thought that splitting up was the right thing to do.
"It was mutual and amicable and thought it was the best for both of us," McIlroy told reporters. "It's time to move on and I think I've said all I need to say."
The couple announced their engagement in January after more than two years together.
