English actress Keira Knightley has defended Phil Neville's World Cup commentary, despite the retired footballer getting heavily criticised for his delivery.
The former Manchester United coach was lambasted on social media back in the summer when he made his co-commentating debut for the BBC during England's opening match against Italy in Brazil.
The 37-year-old was criticised for his 'monotone' delivery, but did gain a fan in Pirates of the Caribbean star Knightley.
"I didn't understand why Phil Neville got stick during the World Cup," Knightley told ShortListTV.com. "I thought he was rather good, I didn't understand what the problem was."
Knightley, who is currently promoting the release of new film The Imitation Game, is a lifelong West Ham United fan.
