The life of Brazilian footballing legend Pele is to be recounted in a movie.

Filmmakers Michael Zimbalist and Jeff Zimbalist will write and direct the project, with the former Santos star serving as executive producer.

The movie will follow Pele's rise to international stardom, from his early years to his three World Cup triumphs with the Brazilian national team.

Pele has been involved in several film projects over the years, most famously starring in the 1981 movie Escape to Victory alongside Sylvester Stallone and Michael Caine.

The untitled biopic is scheduled to begin filming in August.
