Six people, including at least three footballers, are arrested on suspicion of fixing football matches in Britain, according to a report.

Members of an alleged betting syndicate have been arrested on suspicion of fixing football matches in England, according to a report.

The Telegraph claims that officers from the National Crime Agency arrested six men in the last two days that included at least three footballers and player-turned-agent Delroy Facey.

Facey, now 33, is a former Premier League player and has been taken into custody after an investigation by the newspaper discovered that match-fixers in Asia were trying to fix matches in Britain.

"Six men have been arrested across the country as part of an NCA investigation into alleged football match-fixing," the publication quotes the NCA as saying.

"The focus of the operation is a suspected international illegal betting syndicate. The NCA is working closely with the Gambling Commission and the Football Association."

According to the investigation, one fixer arrived in the UK last week but was arrested on Tuesday after disclosing to the newspaper's investigative reporter that he could fix matches in the lower leagues for £50,000 and correctly predicted the results of three games of the same team.

All those arrested are being held at a police station in the Midlands under bribery and fraud Acts. It has also been reported that the clubs targeted by the match-fixers are not from the Premier League.
