Sky is expected to have to pay £600m more per season in order to keep hold of the TV rights to the Premier League.

Sky will reportedly have to pay around £600m more per season in order to retain the lion's share of Premier League TV rights.

The broadcaster currently pays £1.39 billion a year to broadcast 126 games, with BT Sport paying £320m for 42 games a season.

The next set of rights - covering the three years from the 2019-20 season - comes up for auction later this year, with rumours that digital services such as Amazon, Netflix, Facebook and Google are prepared to enter the bidding.

According to research published by The Guardian, Sky is expected to keep hold of its majority share of rights - the number of games on offer for broadcast is due to increase to at least 190 per season - but will be forced to pay around £2 billion every year.

In recent days Sky is thought to have won the battle to keep hold of the EFL rights at a cost of £120m per season.
