Former Southampton captain Matt Le Tissier has displayed his impressive general knowledge during an appearance on ITV quiz show The Chase.
The 44-year-old teamed up with 'Strictly Come Dancing' star Anton du Beke, Labour politician Diane Abbott and TV presenter Denise van Outen to take on Mark Labbett in a special celebrity episode that was aired on ITV1 on Saturday evening.
After answering nine of 11 'cash-builder' questions correctly, Le Tissier did just enough to escape from Labbett and take £9,000 back to his team, adding to the £7,000 and the £2,000 earned by Abbott and Van Outen respectively.
However, there was a moment of embarrassment for Le Tissier to endure during his duel with 'The Beast', as he slipped up on a multiple-choice football question.
When asked who the only manager to have won the Champions League, the European Championship and the World Cup is, Le Tissier replied Marcello Lippi, instead of the correct answer Vicente del Bosque.
Despite having three players in the 'final chase' and setting the chaser a solid target of 18, Le Tissier and company were caught by Labbett with nine seconds remaining, meaning that they failed to win any money.
Nevertheless, ITV donated £1,000 to each of the players' charities, with Le Tissier nominating the Honeypot Children's Charity as his cause.
