An eyewitness reportedly claims that David Ginola is in a coma, despite an official tweet suggesting that he was undergoing tests after collapsing in France.

An eyewitness reportedly claimed on Thursday night that David Ginola was in a coma after collapsing during a football game in his homeland of France.

It appeared that the 49-year-old tried to play down his condition when a tweet on his official account read that he was "having some tests".

The message read: "Footy match in the midday sun, not very clever. Now having some tests done. Whoever voted for a World Cup in Qatar in the summer?"

It was initially reported that Ginola had suffered a suspected heart attack while playing in a charity golf tournament, but it was later revealed that he was taken ill at a match in Monaco.

Last night, via L'Equipe, an eyewitness claimed that the former Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United footballer was in a coma in the Hospital Princess Grace of Monaco.

Journalist Jean Philippe Lustyk told French TV: "He is in a stationary state. He is in a coma. There was a cardiac arrest, he had a heart attack on the pitch. He fell in front of us."

It has been reported that Ginola told friends that he felt unwell prior to the football match.
