A non-league club has been forced to change their crest following complaints made by Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.

The top-flight club wrote to Fleet Spurs, from Hampshire, to come up with a different design because it was too similar to theirs.

The Wessex League Division One club added a cockerel to their emblem in homage to Tottenham, even though there is no direct link between the two clubs.

"We haven't got a penny to our name, we couldn't afford to fight it," BBC News quotes chairman Bryan Sheppard as saying.

"It's been quite stressful, we just felt really intimidated by the heavy-handed approach, but I can see where they are coming from."

Tottenham are said to have claimed that they pushed ahead with their complaint because they wanted to protect the club's identity.
