Sweden's ice hockey player Nicklas Backstrom was omitted from Sunday's Olympic gold-medal game after testing positive for a banned substance, the Swedish Hockey Federation have confirmed.
Swedish Olympic Committee spokesman Bjorn Folin said that the forward tested positive for a substance found in an allergy medication that he has taken for seven years.
Backstrom, who is now the sixth athlete to fail a doping test at the Sochi Games, saw his teammates lose 3-0 to 2010 Olympic champions Canada in today's final at the Bolshoy Ice Dome.
The 26-year-old reportedly claimed that he was suffering from a migraine prior to the final.
