Great Britain surpass their 48-medal target to record their most successful overseas Olympic Games with five days left of competition.

Great Britain have surpassed their 48-medal target to record the nation's most successful Olympic Games overseas.

The team, who claimed 47 medals in Beijing eight years ago, have stepped on the podium 50 times so far with five days of competition remaining in Rio de Janeiro.

Yesterday, Team GB smashed their goal thanks to eight competitors, including cyclists Jason Kenny and Laura Trott, who won gold in the keirin and omnium respectively.

Becky James and Katy Marchant were also successful at the velodrome as the former nabbed silver and her teammate took bronze in the individual sprint.

Diver Jack Laugher added a second medal to his haul by winning silver in the men's 3m springboard final, while sailing star Giles Scott earned top spot on the podium in the Finn class.

Elsewhere, Nile Wilson won GB's first ever medal - a bronze - on the high bar, while Amy Tinkler upset the odds to win bronze in the women's floor final.

Team GB will now look to the 65 medals won at London 2012 as their next target.
