UK Sport will not provide funding for archery, badminton, fencing, weightlifting or wheelchair rugby at Tokyo 2020.

UK Sport has announced that archery, badminton, fencing, weightlifting and wheelchair rugby will not receive funding for the Olympic and Paralympic cycle for Tokyo 2020.

The announcement was made on Friday, with Britain's high performance sport strategy confirming that £345m will be invested to help the nation's elite athletes win medals in Japan.

The total funding, which is raised from the National Lottery and taxation, is £2m less than what was made available for the 2016 campaign, in which Olympic sports received £274,465,541 and Paralympic sports got £72,786,652.

UK Sport's target is for Britain to win between 51 and 85 Olympic medals and collect 115 to 162 medals in the Paralympic Games.

Chair of UK Sport, Rod Carr said: "These are critical funding decisions for sports to take them on their journey to Tokyo 2020 and beyond so the historic success at Rio can be maintained.

"We have received incredible support from the Government, who have confirmed their commitment to funding our ambitions through to Tokyo 2020, providing the financial assurances needed for the continued evolution of our high performance system to ensure the athletes and sports with strong medal potential have what they need to inspire the nation.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Government and National Lottery players for their continued support."

Britain had its best away Games in Rio this summer after coming home with 67 Olympic medals and 147 from the Paralympics.
