West Ham United goalkeeper Darren Randolph says that he and his teammates feared for their safety after Andy Carroll was held at gunpoint.

West Ham United goalkeeper Darren Randolph has admitted that he and his teammates felt 'scared' after Andy Carroll was held at gunpoint by two motorcyclists after leaving training last week.

The 27-year-old was driving home from the Hammers' training base in Chadwell Heath in East London when he was confronted by two armed men at a junction.

Carroll sought safety back at the club's training ground, where the rest of the team were kept behind while police were contacted.

"It has been frightening, considering he left first and a lot of us had to go the same way to get back home," Sky Sports News quotes Randolph as saying. "Everyone stuck around for a little bit longer, just in case.

"It was obviously not nice for him and not nice to hear about for anybody. Obviously when it strikes a bit closer to home, it is a little bit scary.

"I think players get targeted, but I don't think it's something that you wake up and think about every day. When it does happen, it does play on your mind for a few days. You just hope you're not the unlucky one it happens to."

The authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
